Rock

This week I am looking at Rock music. Rock music is one of my favourite styles of music but not something I have ever considered singing. There are many different types rock music, from heavy rock to bubble gum rock to psychedelic, all of which are individual but have similar qualities. Most rock songs have an electric guitar, drums and bass and the singers usually have a strong husky voice. Singing rock songs takes a lot of power and involves a lot of practise to get your vocals strong enough or else you will end up losing your voice.

At this point in my research I have come to realise that singing techniques are very similar across the board, "good rock music singing technique is actually the same as good classical music singing technique, which is the same as good opera music singing technique." (become-a-singing-master.com, n.d.) Therefore I have decided to look at a particular artist and work specifically on one song to try and embody how they sing. I have decided to look at the song Ain't It Fun by Paramore, sung by Hayley Williams. This song is very fast so I will need to work on my articulation which is something I have always struggled with. The chorus is also very powerful and I will have to be very careful and warm up properly to insure I don't damage my vocal chords.
